News: This Tiny Keychain-Sized Game Boy Can Actually Be Played Like the Big One

I don't know about you, but I was obsessed with handheld gaming devices when I was younger. Between my Game Boy and multiple Tamagotchis, I was guaranteed hours of entertainment that could fit comfortably in the palm of my hand.

Jeroen Domburg, aka Sprite_TM, created the world's smallest Game Boy Color that combines the full functionality of a Game Boy with the size of a Tamagotchi for the Hackaday SuperConference, a gathering of hardware hackers in Pasadena, CA that took place last November. We first saw this on The Verge and it blew our minds.

As you can see, the device has the full capability to play games such as Tetris. One of the aspects of Sprite_TM's device that separates it from the original Game Boy Color is that it can wirelessly download new games.

We quickly spoke with Sprite_TM about how this device came to be, and this was his response:

The reason is basically that, when I was young, I ran into what looked like a tiny keychain-sized Game Boy. I was pretty happy finding out such a thing existed, until I noticed that it was only a digital clock, and you couldn't play games on it. Many years later, I grew up to be pretty good at embedded electronics, so I decided to try and make the thing I envisioned back then myself.
